Where can I buy a good souvenir in Victoria, Australia that is not made in China?

I want to buy a souvenir in Victoria, but it’s all made in China.
Emmukio – sorry, I meant not made in China, but also, I want one made in Australia.

J. I got a load of stuff from the Aborigines, all hand made crafts. Going to them is a good way of seeing more of Australians at work and play.

Now, that being said, what isn’t made in China these days. I went to the Bay to buy an authentic Canadian Tshirt, you guessed it, made in China.

What Canadian products to bring as gifts/souvenirs to France?

I’m going to visit a friend in Paris next year and was wondering what to bring as gifts or souvenirs? I was going to pick up some ice wine at the airport duty-free but then wasn’t sure since France already has plenty of wine that’s probably more famous. Maple syrup is apparently a popular gift as well in the airports but will that look kind of strange to cart over a dinky little bottle of syrup?

Mapple syrup is always a good one, real mapple syrup costs an arm and a leg in France. If you want to stay in the mapple syrup range, sweets made out of it. A book on the production of it. Or First Nations artwork. Ice wine is not a bad idea either as it is not common in France.

what is the best way to store valuable leather made items?

I have a couple of sentimental souvenirs made of leather that I would like to preserve and store away for furture generations, what is the best way to do so? Thank you.

Like most things, the basics that you can do at home are pretty simple: keep them in a climate-controlled area (heated and cooled), with as little temperature and humidity fluctuations as possible. Keep them out of direct sunlight, away from damp or water, and away from acidic papers such as newspaper and cardboard. Also keep them away from any type of plastic sheeting or wrap that might contain chlorine. (This means NO bubble wrap or plastic packing peanuts.)

Where to store this is a bit tricky, as some wooden (esp. oak) chests and cases can give off gases that deteriorate artifacts. If you are able, purchase an acid-free / lignin-free archival-quality box from an archival storage or museum products company. With the leather, I think I would go with pH-neutral tissue paper rather than pH-buffered.

If you’re really serious, handle these objects only when you’re wearing soft, clean cotton gloves to prevent the oils from your hands damaging the items.

The exact nature of the items might determine other things. For instance, if these items are garments made of thin leather, it might be good to pad them a bit to keep the folds from cracking.

There was always a difference of opinion as to how to to preserve thick leather objects, such as saddles. Some conservators recommended NOT using any type of saddle soap or neatsfoot oil. A common-sense curator used saddle soap or a mild solution of ivory soap to clean certain objects. Be aware that any type of preservative you use could darken or damage the item as the chemicals degrade. Certainly you would NOT want to apply any type of water-based cleaner on suede or a dyed leather object that might discolor.

If you will give me exact info, I may be able to help you further.

What souvenir should I buy for a 15 years old girl?

I will go to Japan in deceber 15th.
I visit Romania now and when I go to Japan I will visit a family. That family have a 15 years old daughter. Her father ask me to buy a souvenir from Romania. She said she want something unique from here, something popular in that country or something that I want.
So what should I buy for her?

Is very important for me.
So anyone… please help.

Try to find something handmade or handcrafted in Romania such as jewelry or even a trinket box. You also could go to a store in Romania and ask what 15 year old girls are into in that country. A lot of young girls are into Vampire things and Romania is known for vampires, try to find something with that theme as it would be authentic coming from Romania. Good luck!

When you traveled to Disney, how much did you spend on souvenirs and snacks?

We are a family of 3 (2 adults and a 4 year old son) and traveling to Disney World in 2 weeks. We already have the resort, flights, food, car rental, tickets etc paid for. We have a budget of 1 grand for snacks and souvenirs, do you think this is enough? We are staying for 8 days. Thanks.

P.S. We are also visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Sea World.

For Snacks for my family of 4, for a week long trip, we probably spend $200. Souvenirs probably vary. We generally get one clothing item each, either a t-shirt or hat. And then a Christmas ornament. We drink water. I’ll get a case of bottled water. We will refill the bottles, but if one gets lost it ain’t no big thing. We will have a few ice creams, or whatever throughout the week.

These ‘how much do I need for souvenirs and snacks’ questions drive me a bit batty. Spend whatever you want. I assure you that it is possible to have fun without spending money on souvenirs every day. I also assure you that if you want to spend $5000/day there are plenty of places there to spend the money. There is no rule that says how much you need to spend to have a good time. But, there are some people whose version of fun is spending money. It really does not matter what they spend money on, they just feel some kind of rush when they spend money.

In short, do whatever you want. I presume you earned the money, so spend it however you want.

Does anyone know of any good gifts to bring from the USA?

So I’m going to see my in-laws soon and they live in Kuwait. I have no idea what to get them, especially for my father in law and brother in laws. I’ve been there before and it seems like they get nearly everything there in the local market so I have no idea what I could bring that would be somewhat unique. I can’t take alcohol and I’d like to avoid cheesy souvenir stuff.
Anyone who lives there and can think of something they miss from the states or that isn’t available there, your suggestions are appreciated!

Look around for some souvenir shops near where you live or get some food that they don’t have in Kuwait.
